My Pick of the Best Waterproof Coats.

Going a little bit off piste here on my interiors blog and sharing a fashion shopping post! I asked for help finding decent waterproof coats on my Instagram this week and had such an overwelming reponse with both suggestions and requests to share my findings that I just thought I’d share on here.

It seems that a combination of the atrocious wet weather we’ve had so far this spring and that many of us will be staying in the UK for our holidays this year means our most important holiday purchase will be a raincoat instead of a bikini! I’m going to Scotland for two weeks so this is my first item on my shopping list!

Now I’ve struggled for years to find a really good raincoat. Maybe I’m too picky (probably) or maybe there just isn’t that great a choice of fashion forward (sorry my selection is a strictly cagoule free zone!) properly waterproof coats out there.

It seems that if you want a waterproof coat, and I’m talking properly waterproof, not showerproof, or shower friendly or shower resistant but 100 % waterproof and you don’t want to look like a trainspotter then you’re going to have to shell out a bit extra.

Most of these are quite spenny, but I look upon it as an investment. I do lots of walking, school runs and walks in the countryside so this is something that (I hope) will last me for years. I’ve found a couple of cheaper ones too but unfortunatley most high street stores tend to stock shower resistant coats as opposed to waterproof ones.

1. Stutterheim Mosebacke LW jacket in green £149.00 This Swedish brand is a new one to me and I love the trapeze style of this coat. It’s a lightweight version of one of their most popular styles.

2. Barbour Blackett Waterproof Jacket £239 Classic, this will last you a lifetime so worth the big spend, plus I think it looks super smart and love the collar detailing when buttoned up.

3. Joules at Next Waybridge waterproof raincoat £60 I swore to avoid Joules after a bad buy from them but was swayed by this one, because, I MEAN, leopardprint!! The only issue I have is that it has elasticated wrists, which irritate me and generally make me feel like I’m a 4 year old. But I’ll let this pass for an animal print which I am a sucker for!

4. Didriksons Estrid Jacket £200 Another Swedish brand which came highly recommended. Loving the colour blocking on this one, but still monochrome so it’s going to be versatile, looks super quality and makes me imagine I’d look like a hipster scandinavian fisherman if I purchased this one!

1. Sweaty Betty Mission Waterproof Parka £195 Probably my favourite and one that I’m going to order. I love a Parka style coat, and the detailing on the back is gorgeous, though wish this came in green (it comes in cream too) Comes up very large apparently so order a size down. I’m 5ft 8.5 and a medium but shall order a small.

2. Protected Species Waterproof Tour Jacket £149 Comes in three colours and I like how you can adjust the fit with various poppers and ties. Also can zip the hood away into a concealed compartment.

3. Aigle Long Water proof and Windproof Parka £126 LOVE the colours on this one, cool style and its also 30% off right now so a great price for a quality coat.

4. Sweaty Betty Stride Windproof Parka £195 Another Sweaty Betty coat and a revelation as I only knew them for exercise gear. Super cool and as you may have guessed I’m a sucker for a green parka style coat! (out of stock currently)

1. Aigle Lightweight Waterproof Jacket £180 Another green coat and I love the loose relaxed fit of this one. Be great to layer over chunky knits making it useful all year round.

2. Lindex Waterproof Hooded Parka £79.99 Another Swedish brand introduced to me by my Norwegian friend Kat who never fails to look cool on a play or a park date. Comes in cream and black too.

3. Stutterheim Mosebacke Sand £185 Same style as the other Stutterheim coat featured but this one is a heavier weight so suitable for colder weather. Just love their large range of wonderful colours including a delicious pink shade. Plus extra points for the matching hats. Tres cool.

4. La Redoute Waterproof Waxed Hooded Jacket £65 Good old La Redoute, I usually shop there for rugs but they do great clothes too and this one is a good price and available with 30% off right now!

I hope you enjoyed my selection and found my foray into fashion a nice change! (did you know I did my degree in Fashion Design!?) Let me know if you’d like more fashion content on the blog!
